This privacy policy explains what data Storytime collects, why, and what rights you have. Storytime is a small platform still in development. We try to be as transparent and minimal as possible with your data.
What data do we collect?
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address and (optionally) profile picture via our login provider, Clerk. As you use Storytime, this can be joined by a self-written bio, published stories (including the audio recording itself), comments, ratings, follow relationships, blocks, your playback progress per story, and your email notification preference. Our hosting provider also automatically processes technical data such as IP address and device information, purely to keep the platform running.
What do we use your data for?
Only to make Storytime work: to log you in, to show your stories and profile to other users, to enable comments and ratings, to notify you by email when someone you follow publishes a new story (can be turned off in your profile settings), and to contact you about moderation questions or a report you filed. We don't use your data for advertising and we don't sell it to third parties.
Who has access to your data?
We work with a small number of specialized providers who act as processors on our behalf: Clerk (login and account management), Neon (database storage), Cloudflare (storage of audio files and cover images), Resend (sending email notifications) and Vercel (hosting the platform). These providers only get access to what's needed to deliver their service, and may not use your data for their own purposes.
How long do we keep your data?
We keep your data for as long as your account exists, to make the platform work. If you delete a story, it disappears immediately from all public views; for moderation purposes we keep it briefly in our systems before it's permanently erased. If you want your entire account and all associated data deleted, contact us.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your data. Contact us via the email address below, we'll respond as soon as possible.
Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data: passwords never reach our own systems (Clerk handles that entirely), and access to your data is limited to what's necessary. No system is perfectly watertight, but we do our best.
Cookies
Storytime uses functional cookies: to keep you logged in, remember your language preference (Dutch/English), and save your theme (light/dark). We don't use tracking cookies for advertising.
Changes to this policy
Since Storytime is still very much in development, this policy may change. We'll announce important changes through the platform.
